Don’t Miss This Saturday: Sonoma Valley Wine Market. Promo code AND Two Chances to Win Tickets!
One of my favorite things about the holiday season? All the wine events, specials, bundles and promotions. You need wine for your table, entertaining, and if you have lucky friends, for gifts.
Regular followers will recall my ongoing mantra about wine events needing to evolve. I am sick of big wine walk around tastings with 500 wines to try, and I am getting over driving all over the place for bracelet events. Oddly, many wine regions DON”T do a walk around tasting (Dry Creek Valley did a great one once, and stopped.)
An ideal, interesting event: Gather wineries together in a modest size in one place, let me taste the wines AND if I like them, BUY them. Ideally, be able to take them home right away, but for some reason the ABC seems to think that is evil…even though I can go to Safeway and fill up my cart. Unless you have a special permit, or are on property like Ft Mason that is Federal, not State.

One of my favorite wineries in the Carneros area is Larson Family Winery. I love going there since the tasting room has a very ‘folksy’ feeling, and the people are always very friendly and generous. I also like the big grassy area behind the barn where there are picnic tables and a great Bocce Ball court! Great place to spend an afternoon enjoying their wines, having a picnic and playing Bocce Ball! I would have to say my favorite wine consistently is their Sonoma Valley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, though the Three Lab Cab is pretty darned good too!
My favorite winery in Sonoma is Larson Family Winery. I love the small family atmosphere and the outdoor area is beautiful. The story and pictures of Circle M Ranch are wonderful!! My favorite wine to drink and buy there is th Three Lab Cab its a tasty meritage at a wonderful price. Also love the chocolate sauce! The staff is always warm, welcoming and full of great info about the wine and the history of the winery.
I enjoy a few wines from Tin Barn. I went to their Open House last year and enjoyed the Eight Street Wineries. I like their Cab Sauv and Cab Blend. Salute!
Many good wineries, but pick Tin Barn Vineyards.
Although I haven’t visited many properties listed, I’ve had BR Cohn a few times; love his Primitivo and of course the Balsamic.
I’m a big fan of Gloria Ferrer! I love their Brut Rose. It’s luscious, sparkly and lovely. I’ve never visited the caves, but it’s definitely in my plans for early 2012 (after Wineland, of course!!)
hmmm last nights post didn’t show. Congratz to Jonathan Kramer and Yarrow Lubbe – you each won a pair of tickets, they will be at will call.
William.. Thanks so much for choosing me, though I was unaware that it was a pair of tickets, so I drove up solo. I have to say that this event was TOP TIER and will hopefully be the first of many to come. It appears it was not marketed as well as it might, though the crowd that showed was the sort of wine enthusiast local crowd that makes the event so much fun. Great wines, amazing Mac n’Cheese from Girl and Fig restaurant, great chocolates too and of course, the wines! Thanks so much for choosing me. Larson Family had an amazing deal on a Chardonnay that normally sells for $240/cs but was only $100 at the event. To all those that didn’t come.. You REALLLLLY missed it!
thanks Jonathan, glad you enjoyed the event! Sorry wasn’t clear on tickets.
